The Light of Day at the Break of Dawn [Percival/Kanarei]

Percival sat within one of the Academy training yards, dressed in the uniform of the institution, rather than his usual outfit. He sat with his legs tucked neatly under his body, his hands in his lap and his Asauchi directly under his palms. He had spent the last hour or so pouring his time and a bit of his energy into trying to get something, anything, out of the blade. He heard nothing however, the weapon was still an empty shell that remained silent no matter his efforts. He opened his eyes that had been closed and looked up to the sky, seeing the sun beginning to emerge from its resting place, bathing the world around him in a light radiance that just so happened to match his eyes. He thought of the silence of his blade, the one to be his partner, and cursed inwardly. He had been trying hard to awaken the blade since the moment he entered the Academy, but had gotten nowhere with it. It was rather infuriating. Anger was something he rarely showed, so it wasn’t apparent upon his features, but his disappointment was plain. He gave a sigh and stood from his resting place.

He felt the intense urge to complain about the scratchy and uncomfortable uniform, but he bit it back. There was no one here for him to complain to, anyway. Everyone was most likely asleep, a fact which he thought was a blessing when he came out to practice so early. However, it had quickly turned into a curse, for he was awake in the wee hours of the morning without anything to occupy his time with. He wasn’t the type of person to go to back bed after they had woken up, so that was off the table. He didn’t feel like studying so early, so that was out. The only thing he could actually see himself taking a bit of joy in at this point in his day was sparring, and that was simply because he enjoyed pitting his skills against someone else’s. It was a good way to solidify his superiority, especially since very few students in the Academy were capable of besting him in spars. He was adamantly looking for someone who could though, so that he could have a goal. Someone to surpass that was actually within his capacity to surpass at this point in time. But alas, he was a bit ahead of the curve when compared to his fellow cadets. He gave a small sigh at this thought and just looked at the sunrise in the distance.

Kanarei had woken up early this morning to do some pre class training, as she would always do. Even before joining the academy this is something she would do everyday along with her other clansmen. Walking around the academy grounds to get to the water fountain she saw a few other early risers. Younger souls determined to be the best in the class or surpass a certain rival. No matter the reason for them being out at this time it was always good to see students hard at work. Kanarei loved that they were enthusastic about becoming shinigami, she also loved that there weren't as many people here as there usually are in her family's compound.

Approaching the fountain the blue haired female balanced her asauchi on the left side of the porcelain bowl while reaching for the handle with her free hand. Bending over the female took a sip of the now flowing water, she would stay in this position for about fifteen seconds. Letting go of the handle and standing up straight, she wiped her chin with her right hand while reaching for her sword with the other. There was still some time before class was set to start so she decided to read for the remained of that time. Walking over to her favorite tree in the yard she could see someone not too far from her location meditating with their asauchi. The thought of them probably being an overachiever crossed her mind but she didn't think anymore on it.

If that child wanted to rush the bond between theirself and the zanpakuto so be it. Kanarei knew that would be the most difficult thing to accomplish in the time spent here and had zero desire to force it. Sitting under the tree with her legs folded like a pretzel the female reached into her shirt to retreive a small paperback book. Opening the book on the memorized page she left off on the shinigami in training began to read.
